Black Lives Matter Saratoga

  • Congress Park 57 Phila St Saratoga Springs, NY (map)

Join Saratoga community members on Wednesday, July 1 at 5:00 p.m. at Congress Park for a peaceful protest to speak out against the poor response to our call for justice.

Saratoga showed up and sent a strong message about the need for change and the response was to announce a "community conversation" with 8 days notice that will be online and the Zoom link to be posted the day of the event, Wednesday, July 1 at 5:00 p.m.

This is another example of excluding the voices most impacted by the very laws and policies that need to be changed! We will not be silenced! We will not be ignored! WE will have our community conversation and be heard.

Mayor Kelly, Commissioner Dalton, and Chief Crooks know what is needed, including but not limited to:

• Require all force be reported with racial data captured for both the law enforcement officer or correction officer and the injured party and review by a Civilian Review Board with full access to unredacted files and evidence and the power to submit to the Attorney General for further review, investigation, and potential charges.

• Police altercations and correction officer altercations that result in death or hospitalization be investigated by the NYS attorney general, not investigated by their colleagues inside the Saratoga Police Department or Saratoga County Jail.

•Demilitarize law enforcement and defunding of law enforcement agencies with the funds reallocated to Community Based Restorative Groups for conflict resolution and restorative practices and other community-based services and solutions.

As always, this will be a family friendly event for all people of all ages, joining our voices together united for equity, equality, and justice.
