All Of Us will host a showing of the Netflix film 13th followed by a discussion of the issues raised by this important film and the fight to end police brutality, state-sanctioned violence, and mass incarceration.
13th is a documentary by Ava DuVernay, the director of Selma, about the 13th Amendment which freed the slaves from plantations, but at the same time provided slave labor via the prison system and began the mass incarceration that continues today. This is a devastating and provocative exploration of our country's system of mass incarceration and the different areas of our society which profit from it and communities impacted by it.
