Labor and Community: United for Social Justice

Organizers from our capital region are joining numerous local organizations, including the Albany County Central Federation of Labor and the Albany NAACP for a streaming event.

The virtual event will include:

  • a historical and contemporary look at Dr. King’s legacy.

  • a documentary titled “Be Alright Be Alright” recounting stories of the sanitation workers, the labor strike that changed the civil rights movement. We will engage on the implications for workers today.

  • labor and community leaders will engage in a roundtable and neighborhood discussion on the Albany Multi-craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program (MAPP) and the role such labor initiatives play in communities of color, along with ways to improve and expand such initiatives.
